Major new South Australian project for Peet Group
The Peet Group will partner the South Australian Government in the redevelopment of the residential component of Tonsley – a major new education, industry and residential precinct just 10 kilometres from the Adelaide CBD.
Making the announcement on-site on Sunday 29 May 2016, the South Australian Minister for Transport and Infrastructure, The Hon Stephen Mullighan MP, said the residential development was a critical element of the Tonsley project, which will help to further activate the precinct and will add to the vibrancy of the area.
“Tonsley has been the focus of a huge amount of effort and investment from Government since Mitsubishi left nearly 10 years ago,” he said.
“We deliberately secured the site because we knew it would be a tremendous location for a development that includes not only a new TAFE and the Drill Core Reference Library but also businesses, and the last component of that is the residential development.
“This announcement comes at a great time when the State Government is partnering with the Federal Government to deliver the $85million extension of the Tonsley rail line up to Flinders University,” the Minister added.
The Tonsley project is an extension of the Peet Group’s existing relationship with Renewal SA (via CIC Australia) with whom it is delivering the award-winning Lightsview community to the north-east of the Adelaide CBD.
At Tonsley, it’s expected more than 850 dwellings – a broad mix of housing types including townhouses and apartments – will accommodate around 1,200 new residents, and be developed as part of an integrated project that promotes sustainability including walking and cycling, as well as access to public transport.
Peet Limited Managing Director and CEO, Brendan Gore, said “The Peet Group looks forward to building on our track record in delivering innovative, diverse and affordable housing project – as it has through its partnership with Renewal SA at Lightsview, and in other partnerships around Australia.
“The Tonsley project expands our presence in Adelaide, and underlines Peet’s commitment to South Australia and our confidence in the transformation of the Tonsley precinct into a thriving, sustainable community and destination,” he said.
