Healthy Active by Design at The Village at Wellard
Peet’s award-winning The Village at Wellard community south of Perth has been featured as a case study by the Heart Foundation's Healthy Active by Design program, shining a spotlight on its many design features which support healthy and active living.
The Heart Foundation's Healthy Active by Design program is a ‘one-stop’ online platform that highlights the connection between health and the built environment.
It focuses on eight design features – public open space; community facilities; buildings; destinations; movement networks; housing diversity; sense of place; and food – and provides useful summaries of the best available evidence to help demonstrate each features importance. It also provides practical guidance on how to live a healthy and active life.

All of Peet’s communities are carefully designed with a focus on these principles, and the outcomes at The Village at Wellard, which is a joint venture with the WA Department of Communities, have been outstanding.
Today, The Village at Wellard today is a sustainable, transit-focused development, with regional and local connectivity which creates a user-friendly movement network. Careful and clever design has ensured that most residents live within 800m of the Wellard Train Station, and the inclusion of shops, public open space and schools means residents have access to everything they need to live a healthy, active and connected life.
