THE GOOGONG TOWNSHIP WATER CYCLE PROJECT GOES ON PUBLIC EXHIBITION
Monday, 1 November, 2010The Googong township has been designed to be one of the first purpose-built, large-scale water-efficient communities in Australia. The township is designed around an integrated water cycle system, known as the Googong Water Cycle Project. This system includes a dedicated water recycling plant, which would reduce potable water consumption by at least 60 per cent and recycle up to 62 per cent of the township’s wastewater for non-potable use.
Googong will demonstrate that a truly water-efficient, ecologically sustainable town is possible, which can serve as a benchmark for future Australian communities.
CIC Australia, has prepared an environmental assessment for the Googong Water Cycle Project in accordance with the requirements of the NSW Department of Planning. The environmental assessment has looked at all of the different infrastructure elements required to establish a water cycle system for the Googong township, and assessed the potential environmental impacts from this project.
The assessment is on exhibition from Wednesday 17 November until Monday 20 December 2010.
The full environmental assessment report can be downloaded from the NSW Department of Planning’s website here. Copies of the report are also on display at various locations in Queanbeyan and Sydney – details are on the NSW Department of Planning website.
