Tuesday, 10 June, 2014New childcare centre to open in Googong
The Anglican School Googong is pleased to announce their partnership with Anglicare to open an Early Learning Centre (ELC) in the Queanbeyan/Jerrabomberra region in 2015. The ELC will open in January 2015 and has already received a number of applications.
Foundation Principal of The Anglican School Googong, Ian Hewitt, says the partnership will allow both organisations to actively support children to make a smooth transition from one learning environment to another. "We hope to provide a fun and safe learning environment for all children who attend," said Ian. "For the first time families in the local area will have the option to send their children to one school from Pre-School right through to Year 12."
"We hope to engage children with our learning philosophies at the start of their education journey. Our flexible learning environment encourages active, inquisitive students. We will offer a wide range of educational opportunities outside the classroom through outdoor learning areas and a variety of community outreach programs.”
Anglicare Children's Services Manager, Sue Jennings, says the ELC will add to Anglicare's well established services. "Anglicare is well established in early childhood education and is the current provider of eight child care services in New South Wales and the ACT," she said. "Working with the Anglican School at Googong gives us the opportunity to provide the community with a flexible model of early childhood education where families have a choice of preschool hours to suit their lifestyle."
Queanbeyan Mayor Tim Overall congratulated The Anglican School on the Early Learning Centre and said it would be a great addition to the many fine childcare centres in the area.
The ELC will provide a Pre-School program for 3-5 year olds. There will be two programs, which offer care for school age children before and after school hours. We will also be offering a vacation care program during the school holidays.
With the increase in support from the government, eligible parents will be able to claim the Child Care Rebate or Child Care Benefit.
The Anglican School Googong will be the first school to be built in the Googong area. Students will have access to a range of facilities to encourage healthy and sustainable lifestyles, including a swimming pool, kitchen gardens and tennis courts.
