GOOGONG SALES PASS $55 MILLION
Friday, 16 November, 2012Sales with a total value of over $55 million have been secured at Googong as ACT and NSW residents capitalise on NSW Government concessions, major new infrastructure, and the township’s proximity to Canberra.
Googong Project Director Mark Attiwill says that more than 225 lots have been sold at Googong over the past seven months. Buyers have been keen to capture a range of financial incentives, but have also bought into the vision of the township.
“With any major new project like Googong, purchasers, especially the early purchasers, need to take a leap of faith and have the foresight to be part of a growing community,” he says.
“People are really sharing in our vision for the township’s future. As the word spreads about its features and benefits, we have found that people are genuinely excited about the prospect of living at Googong.”
As part of the township’s development, multi-million dollar upgrades have already been completed on the Edwin Land Parkway which links the Monaro Highway to Old Cooma Road, and work is set to start shortly on widening and straightening part of Old Cooma Road to create a more direct and safer route between Googong and Queanbeyan.
Major community infrastructure, including an Anglican primary school which will open in 2015, has been confirmed, and funding has been committed to build community facilities including a multi-purpose community centre, library, indoor sports and aquatic centre and two neighbourhood community centres.
Tenders have just closed for construction of a community clubhouse with indoor heated pool, gym, café and general store. The clubhouse will overlook parklands with water features and two tennis courts.
Mr Attiwill says that current pricing at Googong is designed to reward early purchasers, and that there are savings of between 5 to 20% on a comparable block in Canberra. “When you combine that with incentives offered by the NSW Government, there are significant savings to be made.”
The financial incentives and vision at Googong has attracted singles, couples and families keen to build their first, second or third homes.
Business is also being encouraged to look at Googong’s benefits. Expressions of interest are currently being sought from supermarkets and specialty retail providers, cafés, childcare, medical and professional services, and aged care providers. It is estimated that nearly 2,500 jobs will be created in the township by the time it is completed.
