FREE ADVISORY SERVICE TO BE OFFERED FOR SUSTAINABLE BUILDING AT GOOGONG
Monday, 14 April, 2014Home-builders wanting to build sustainable homes at the new Googong Township will soon have access to a free advisory service, including architectural advice.
Queanbeyan Mayor Tim Overall said Queanbeyan City Council had successfully bid for a grant of nearly $100,000 from the NSW Environmental Trust Grants program to provide the service, which would include workshops, personal consultations and online resources.
“This free advisory service will increase home-owners' awareness and understanding of the environmental and cost benefits that can be achieved through sustainable design and building principles and will empower them to pursue these ideas with their own builders and designers,” Cr Overall said.
“Building sustainably is often a dream for people, but they are often not sure where to start. This service will support and encourage future Googong residents and builders to build to environmental conditions and will allow Googong to be at the forefront of sustainable building led by a one of its kind initiative by the Queanbeyan City Council in partnership with Googong Township Pty Ltd.”
Cr Overall said the advisory service would now be developed more fully by the project team and will be rolled out to the public in September. Council will provide details of the service closer to the date.
