ANGLICAN PRIMARY SCHOOL CONFIRMED FOR GOOGONG
Monday, 7 February, 2011A new accessible, co-educational, low fee and open entry primary school has been confirmed for Googong and will be built by the Anglican Church in time for the 2015 school year.
Googong Project Director Mark Attiwill says it will be the first Anglican primary school to be provided for the region, and as well as Googong children, will welcome students from all of Googong's catchment areas, including Queanbeyan, Jerrabomberra and Canberra.
"The school will be built in stages as Googong's population starts to grow and demand for facilities increases," Mark says. "When it's completed, we expect it will cater for about 400 young students.
"It's big news for the region and Googong families, and local communities will also benefit greatly from the new facility and the quality of education it will provide."
CIC Australia will provide an area of land free of charge to the Anglican Diocese of Canberra and Goulburn, so the Diocese can build and operate the school.
The first stage is expected to be completed and open to students for the start of the 2015 school year, with construction to be fully finished by about 2020.
CIC is finalising discussions with the NSW Department of Education around the provision of an additional public primary and a public secondary school for the Googong township. A private secondary school is also being negotiated.
