Parking Day
Hundreds of Wellard locals took to the streets of Wellard Square last Friday, in the fun filled global PARK(ing) Day event.
Friday evening on 15th September saw The Strand closed off and transformed - with parking bays becoming everything from alfresco dining to mini golf activities. With various unique stalls, many of which set up by local businesses, residents of all ages were kept entertained, well fed and in high spirits.
The first of its kind for The Village at Wellard, PARK(ing) Day is a global annual event, designed to activate car bays, invigorate local businesses and reclaim the streets back to the community, all in the name of fun.
Highlights ranged from the Residents Association pop-up bar, 'The Village Well', and the picturesque alfresco dining outside Oceans British Chip Shop and My Noodle Rules. The dining set up proved so popular with patrons that there are moves to make it a regular feature over the warmer months.
Other activities include a pop-up florist, vinyl DJ with pop-up record store, and a game of street cricket organised by the Kwinana Cricket Club. There was also plenty to entertain the kids from the John Wellard Community Centre, with giant games, a cow that kids could milk, and live music! Wellard Family Practice also had their doctors teaching children how to listen to their heart using stethescopes.
Central Wellard shops played a big part in the event too - with Woolworths and BWS offering in store tastings, Bliss Momo's providing delicious food in their alfresco stall, free spinal adjustments from Tassell Chiropractic and free five minute massages from Wellard Physiotherapy.
The #Wellard sign 'lit up' the event, and provided a great backdrop for selfies and family photos.
