New Redbank Plains road a winner for commuters

Commuters heading out of Redbank Plains will soon have more time to linger over their morning coffee. Work has started to connect Mt Juillerat Drive directly onto Centenary Highway cutting the driving time to Brisbane and shaving about 10 minutes off the journey to Springfield Central’s major shopping centre and train station.

The $11.6 million roadworks have been triggered by rapid growth in the new residential community of Eden’s Crossing, with completion expected by early 2019.* For Eden’s Crossing mother-of-three Kellie Parsons, the new road will reduce her travel time from home to work by at least 10 minutes each way.

“I can’t wait. With a husband working and three boys to get to school, mornings are always a rush,” said Kellie, who works as a teacher aide at Springfield Central State School.

“We timed the trip. When the new road opens it will take me less than 15 minutes to work, instead of 25. It will be an easy run too without all the traffic lights.”

Long-time residents of Redbank Plains, the Parsons were one of the first families to move to Eden’s Crossing two years ago.

“We really have the best of both worlds here. It’s so close to work and the city and everything we need, but we’re also really close to the great outdoors. We have beautiful spaces to play with a park across the road. My boys love mountain biking and White Rock Reserve is just down the road.”

Peet Limited Managing Director and CEO Brendan Gore said Redbank Plains was one of the fastest growing suburbs in Greater Brisbane and the new road would create a more direct route for people traveling either north to Brisbane city or south to Logan and the Gold Coast.

“The new roadworks will make the trip to school or work quicker and more convenient for everybody in the area and help reduce traffic pressure on existing streets,” Mr Gore said.

“More than 200 families have already moved in to Eden’s Crossing to be close to the existing schools, future neighbourhood shopping, sports fields and creek side parklands. The community is growing quickly so we are making sure the infrastructure is in place to support that growth.”

The masterplanned Eden’s Crossing community is next door to the new Fernbrooke State School and Staines Memorial College and will eventually be home to more than 1,200 families. Currently, Mt Juillerat Drive terminates at Creekstone Avenue and motorists backtrack to the existing onramp at Augustine Heights to get on to Centenary Highway.
