Riverbank grows new community space with a veggie garden
Riverbank residents have a fresh new community space to enjoy, following the unveiling of a new 75 square metre communal fruit and vegetable garden on 23 November in Harvey Park.
The new Riverbank Community Veggie Garden has been created to provide residents with an opportunity to grow their favourite fruit and vegetables in a safe and easily accessible location within the community. The garden will also provide local parents and children with a practical way to learn about growing their own food.
A group of Riverbank residents will help to maintain the Veggie Garden, with a team from Sow Great scheduled to visit the estate monthly to monitor the growth of fruits and vegetables. The garden will initially be trialled for six months, but it is hoped it will have a long successful future.
An opening event was held for the Riverbank community on Saturday 23 November. Residents attended a workshop and planting session with Tom Farmer from Sow Great to learn about growing their own fruits and vegetables.
The Riverbank Community Veggie Garden is located in Riverbank’s Harvey Park which also includes a children’s playground, a large dog park and plenty of open green space.
